Chairs of Standing Committee “ARTS AND CRAFTS”

Planning for the triennium 2009 -2011

Purpose of Arts and Crafts Committee is : Using arts and crafts to stimulate an international discussion about women’s social role, showing how women are able to preserve cultures and to innovate their role in modern society.

Considered that 2009-2011 Triennium Theme for BPW International is “Power to Make a Difference” throughout Leadership, Action and Advocacy; ARTS AND CRAFTS Committee aims at carrying out different activities and projects for each year and guideline.

2009 – Power to Make a Difference through Leadership :

  • Purpose is to discuss about women’s approach to international relationships between North and South of the world.

v In order to make that, we are going to organise an international meeting among women of 5 different continents engaged as leaders in important cultural projects for building a new kind of intercultural dialogue.

2010 – Power to Make a Difference through Action :

  • Purpose is to make a real initiative to develop a dialogue between north and south, using women’ approach to ideas and identities in building international relationships and politics.

v In order to make that, we are going to draft a Project that aims at valorising cultural exchanges among northern and southern populations. This project will traduce ideas and good experiences, generated during the international meeting, in action : an opportunity for women and men of north and south countries to build a bridge between their cultures. Action throughout projects foresees a deep financing opportunity research of European Programmes, United Nations Agencies funding programmes and other international or national financing sources.

2011 – Power to Make a Difference through Advocacy :

  • Purpose is to share in strengthening people rights to protect and promote their cultural diversity .

v We are going to make pressure on mass media in order to promote women and men’s interventions about protection and promotion of cultural diversity. We would like to stress, by communication campaigns and awakening people, the importance to protect indigenous and local cultures. We would like to suggest a new kind of globalisation able to valorise diversity and meetings among different cultures rather than diffuse an inexistent universal culture.
